Nimesh Patel

Nimesh Patel was born in the Parsippany-Troy Hills area of Morris County New Jersey in 1986 to Indian-Gujarati-Hindu parents. His parents emigrated to the United States in the 1970’s and eventually his father opened a liquor store in Irvington, NJ. Nimesh in his standup routine jokes about the high gang and crime rate area saying that the only thing the Bloods gang and Crips gang had in common was robbing his father's store. Patel moved to New York City to attend New York University initially as a pre-med student but wound up graduating in 2008 with a degree in finance. After graduating, Nimesh started working on his standup at night and in 2015 was discovered doing standup by Chris Rock in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Patel then joined his writing team for the 88th Academy Awards. In 2017 Patel began working as a full-time writer for Saturday Night Live and is credited as the first Indian American writer on SNL. In 2018 Patel was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for his work on SNL. Patel is currently on tour across the United States as of this writing.
